Night security is evolving with robotic patrols and integrated control
A large outlet in Germany faced the challenge of managing a spacious facility while reliably securing nighttime security personnel.
In particular, as securing night shift staff became more difficult, a new operational model was needed that could reduce dependence on personnel while maintaining existing security levels.
To address this, Securitas has built a hybrid security model with its customers that combines field security, autonomous patrol robots, and integrated control.
Night security operations combining technology and professional personnel
Securitas' security and technology experts designed the new security framework around three operational objectives.
- Maintaining stable nighttime security in a large workplace
- Easing the operational burden on night security personnel
- Enhancing on-site visibility and response capabilities through integrated control
Based on this, we established an integrated security operating system where on-site personnel and security technologies complement each other.
How does the hybrid security model operate?
The new security model connects field security, autonomous patrol robots, and integrated control into a single operating system.
- During the day, on-site security personnel manage the facility, assist visitors, and secure key areas.
- At night, autonomous patrol robots patrol perimeter and key areas along pre-set routes.
- Patrol robots connect to the Securitas Security Operations Center (SOC) to provide relevant information in case of abnormal situations.
- Monitoring personnel assess the situation and determine necessary responses based on the information provided.
- If on-site inspection is required, mobile patrol personnel can respond.
In this way, security operations can be structured by leveraging technology to assess the situation on site and have experts decide necessary responses based on information.
Improving the efficiency and visibility of security operations
In this case, combining field personnel, robotic patrols, and integrated control enabled a more efficient nighttime security operation.
In particular, we were able to see improvements in the following operational aspects.
- Consistent nighttime perimeter patrols using autonomous driving patrols
- Situation Monitoring and Response Through Coordination with the Control Center
- Efficient on-site response based on confirmed alerts
- Enhanced operational visibility through integrated monitoring and reporting
Currently, patrol robots operate within a single security system alongside on-site security personnel, mobile patrol personnel, and control center operators.
Security Operation Methods Referenced by Manufacturing and Large-Scale Sites
This global case study can also serve as a reference for companies operating large sites or considering streamlining nighttime security operations.
Especially in environments where large spaces such as manufacturing facilities and large commercial facilities must be continuously managed, effectively connecting on-site personnel with remote control and security technologies is crucial.
However, the required security technologies and operational methods may vary depending on the size of the business, the risk environment, and the scope of local services provided.
Integrated security connecting people and technology
Even as the role of robots and automation technologies expands, the judgment and response of professionals in security operations remain crucial.
Technology supports repeated patrols and situational detection, allowing professionals to assess situations and respond as needed based on the information provided.
Effectively connecting people, technology, and control in this way can be one way to build more efficient security operations.
