Challenge: Securitas Korea was contracted to deliver a number of bespoke services to different major sponsors of the 2018 Winter Games. This project was the largest one Securitas Korea had undertaken with the total count of 1 base camp, 10 separate accommodations for security personnel and 15 vehicles to cater to 11 clients, 4 major location clusters, 17 sites, 24/7 manned guards and foot patrols, 8 mobile teams, VIP/Executive Protection teams and a 24/7 SOC.
Solution: The scope of work for each client was tailored to meet their individual needs. Prior to the commencement of the Games, risk assessments and evacuation plans were drawn up to understand the topography of the terrain, the layout of the sites where the Games will be held at and the available transport links. Initial reconnaissance was completed to grasp the strategic, operational and tactical planning, effective execution of the whole project. Both our clients and Securitas' goal during this project was the delivery of a safe environment for the Games to be enjoyed by everyone.
The Games started from February 9 to 25 but security services were provided prior to and after the Games to support the operations of each client on site. During the Games, services provided included on-site 24/7 static manguarding, foot patrol of clustered areas, mobile rovers to specific key points, Executive Protection for VIP guests including CEOs and Royalty visiting the Games, screening guards, access control especially for each country's hospitality houses, a canine unit and CCTV monitoring handled by the Security Operations Center (SOC) headquartered in Seoul.
Result: Throughout the duration of the project, there were no significant incidents. Efficiencies were provided to different clients within the same cluster by sharing services. Despite the challenges of the event with thousands of visitors from all over the world, the environmental challenges of below freezing weather and the different requirements of multiple clients, Securitas Korea was able to deliver a successful service across the Winter Games to all our clients.
